One in five kids in America are living in households without consistent access to enough food. That is 16 million children. Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign is ending child hunger in America by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need, every day. The No Kid Hungry campaign connects kids in need with nutritious food and teaches their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. The campaign also engages the public to make ending child hunger a national priority.

In support of No Kid Hungry we hosted our first Friendsgiving. Everyone contributed a home cooked dish, bringing their family traditions to my table and home. 26 friends gathered and enjoyed 1 roasted turkey, 3 rotisserie chickens, 3 lbs of roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower, corn souffle, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, spinach salad, hash brown casserole, 2 fruit pies, chocolate cake and many bottles of local Virginia wine. It was wonderful to share this holiday with our friends.

Through the generous support of friends and family, our first Friendsgiving raised $1693. Every $10 donation can help connect a child with up to 100 meals. That means we are able to provide 16,930 meals!

Our Thankful Tree
Here are some of the things our guests were thankful for when they were a kid…
“Neighborhood midnight tag and climbing trees”
“That my mother didn’t kill me!”
“Free sundae coupons at Mc Donald’s”
“Beach, mangoes, sapodilla”
“The boxes of ice cream my Mom would bring home from work”
“Portugese Club in Riverdale, MD”
“Thankful for my dad who used to bring candy when he worked late”
“My brothers and parents. I am still thankful for them but also glad I know Anthony!”
Happy Thanksgiving!
