From the first day at Floris Elementary School…

to the last. The week before kindergarten Oliver hit his head against our coffee table that required 30 stitches. The weeks leading up to kindergarten Oliver exhausted me with repetitive questions always ending in “Right Mama?” and only I, his mama, could answer. Seven years later Oliver rides his bike to the pool, to Harris Teeter with his friends in the neighborhood, he excelled in school rarely requiring any support from me, he obsessively plays video games and he’s had his first girlfriend. He’s self-aware, affectionate, loves his stuffed animals and let me hug and kiss him at the bus stop on his last day of 6th grade. While an end often carries excitement of a new beginning I know what comes next. We aren’t just saying bye to elementary school, we are saying bye to the sweet and carefree days of childhood. The Peristeres started a tradition of ice cream for breakfast on the last day of school. After they moved we continued the tradition through elementary school for Penny and Oliver. Today was the last one.
