PDN PhotoPlus International Conference and Expo was founded in 1983, and is the largest photography and imaging event in North America. Offering educational seminars, Photo Walks, master classes and an exhibition floor, the event is a great opportunity to learn from and meet accomplished photographers.

Last year we hosted a Friendsgiving to raise money and awareness for No Kid Hungry. This year the girls got dressed up and turned plain, white buttercream cakes into towering artistic creations. While the girls decorated the moms donated. Every $10 raised can feed a child up to 100 meals.

Jordan Pond is a glacier formed tarn. The waters are crystal clear and serve as a water supply for the nearby town of Seal Harbor. A 3.6 mile hike around the shoreline gives you flat trails, bridges, rocky climbs and a man-made bog walk to protect the most fragile areas. The constant change in terrain coupled with the views kept us all entertained and inspired. Our hike ended with popovers at Jordan Pond House, the only full service restaurant in Acadia National Park. The tradition of popovers and tea dates back to the 1890s.

I walk out of the office at the end of the day and let my pleasant smile fade. I remove a jacket, a dress and ease into something more comfortable. I ready the kids for bed hearing their stories of the day. Layers of responsibility, of reminders and to-dos, of worries fall off of me, if I’m lucky, and I find my rest. When I rise the next day I apply my makeup and my steady, pleasant smile.
A layer of tiny water droplets suspended in the atmosphere obscures visibility beyond Bar Harbor. The islands that dot the coast have disappeared. The eye has no where to look but to what is at hand.

Spartan Race started in 2011 and is referred to as one of the Big 3 in obstacle course racing organizations, along with Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash. What makes Spartan Race stand out from the other two is that they are a chip timed event where winning matters and burpees are king. For any obstacle not completed the participant must complete 30 burpees. The Spartan Sprint is an obstacle course over roughly 3 miles with an average of 20 obstacles.

Rei Kawakubo is a Tokyo-based designer and founder of the Japanese fashion label Comme des Garcons (“like some boys”). Season after season, collection after collection, she upends conventional notions of beauty and disrupts accepted characteristics of the fashionable body. “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between” examines nine expressions of “in-betweenness”: Absence/Presence; Design/Not Design; Fashion/Antifashion; Model/Multiple; High/Low; Then/Now; Self/Other; Object/Subject; and Clothes/Not Clothes. It reveals how her designs occupy the spaces between these dualities – which have come to be seen as natural rather than social or cultural – and how they resolve and dissolve binary logic.

The Antinori family has been involved in the production of wine for over six centuries, through twenty six generations. Antinori nel Chianto Classico was opened in 2013 and served to relocate the company headquarters from its Renaissance palazzo in Florence to the hillside of Bargino, literally, the winery is folded into the hillside resembling a pair of rust-colored slashes in newly planted vineyards. “The idea was to bring the heart of the company back to the countryside where the wine is produced,” says Antinori.
To celebrate Penny’s 8th birthday we hosted a cooking party with chef Wendi James of Rutabaga Sweets. The menu included handmade cheese ravioli, fresh tomato sauce and garlic bread. The kids were attentive and focused and created some delicious food! Penny loves to cook, what a treat it was to share this with her friends.
