“If you are the victim of gun violence, raise your hand,”
said Zion Kelly.
Zion Kelly, a senior at Thurgood Marshall Academy in Southeast Washington, spoke about his twin brother, Zaire, who was shot and killed by a robber in September. “From the time we were born, we shared everything. I spent time with him every day because we went to the same schools, shared the same friends, and we even shared the same room,” he said. “I’m here to represent the hundreds of thousands of students who live every day in constant paranoia and fear on their way to and from school.”

Soaring to the uppermost reaches of the National Building Museum, Hive is built entirely of more than 2,700 wound paper tubes, a construction material that is recyclable, lightweight, and renewable. The tubes vary in size from several inches to 10 feet high and will be interlocked to create three dynamic interconnected, domed chambers. Reaching 60 feet tall, the installation’s tallest dome features an oculus over 10 feet in diameter. The tubes feature a reflective silver exterior and vivid magenta interior, creating a spectacular visual contrast with the Museum’s historic nineteenth-century interior and colossal Corinthian columns.
Spartan Race started in 2011 and is referred to as one of the Big 3 in obstacle course racing organizations, along with Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash. What makes Spartan Race stand out from the other two is that they are a chip timed event where winning matters and burpees are king. For any obstacle not completed the participant must complete 30 burpees. The Spartan Sprint is an obstacle course over roughly 3 miles with an average of 20 obstacles.
