In November we hosted our first Friendsgiving, raising money and awareness for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. In December we continued our support by attending Cookies & Custard, a family holiday cookie decorating party. They provided cookies, decorations, lunch and fun activities to engage the kids and we provided our holiday spirit.
Designed by James Corner Field Operations, ICEBERGS opened at the National Building Museum as part of the annual Summer Block Party series. ICEBERGS was designed by landscape architects and built from reusable construction materials, such as scaffolding and polycarbonate paneling. The 20′ high “water line” allows panoramic views from high above the ocean surface and down below among the towering bergs.
We explored a fantastical glacial sea, slid down an ice chute, viewed the ICEBERGS from under sea level to 56′ above all while learning how design can transform a space and lives.

It is with a full heart and a full belly that I look out on this sea and see all of my blessings reflected back at me.
Our Thanksgiving day was much the same yet completely different. There were no groceries to buy, no tables to set. But there was family, beauty and celebration of the countless blessings that surround us.
The sky is blue.
The sea too.
Everything kissed by the sun.
It sits on my cheeks, it dwells in my heart.
Such ease, such simplicity, such a heaven.
For Thanksgiving, the Go Moran clan fled gray skies, winter coats and to-do lists for sunshine, swim suits and noon-time rum punches. With children and grandchildren all gathered, Papa and Nana couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate family than to pit cousin against cousin, brother against sister, husband against wife in some “friendly” Family Olympics.

One in five kids in America are living in households without consistent access to enough food. That is 16 million children. Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign is ending child hunger in America by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need, every day. The No Kid Hungry campaign connects kids in need with nutritious food and teaches their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. The campaign also engages the public to make ending child hunger a national priority.

I can drive 25 miles east and arrive in Washington D.C., a bustling center of culture, politics and diversity. I can drive 25 miles west and arrive in the rolling hills of Virginia, where fruit farms and wineries dot the landscape, where history breathes. This is a beautiful place; my country, my state, my home.
