In November we hosted our first Friendsgiving, raising money and awareness for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. In December we continued our support by attending Cookies & Custard, a family holiday cookie decorating party. They provided cookies, decorations, lunch and fun activities to engage the kids and we provided our holiday spirit.
Inspired by the Ethiopian famine, in 1984 siblings Billy and Debbie Shore founded Share Our Strength to help end global hunger and poverty. Starting in the basement of a row house on Capitol Hill, Share Our Strength has launched numerous programs such as Taste of the Nation, The Great American Bake Sale and Dine Out for No Kid Hungry that engages restaurants and families alike to raise awareness and funds for their mission. Share Our Strength was selected as Food Network’s exclusive charity of choice, advocated for a strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization Bill which passed as the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 and in 2015 invested over $29 million in programming to feed kids.
Part of the event was a service project where the kids decorated placemats so that children can have breakfast in the classroom.
