Isla Zapatilla are actually two small islands that are part of the Bastimentos National Marine Park and are completely undeveloped. Small in size, they can be explored and circumnavigated in just a half hour. We arrived first and enjoyed the beautiful island to ourselves before the boatloads of tourists arrived.

Discovered by explorers in 1502, they were captivated by the rock formation that looked like the “mouth of a bull” (Bocas del Toro) and the inherent beauty and abundance of the island naming it Bastimentos.

At Hollywood Vibe regionals in Norfolk Lucas received a Team Vibe Scholarship qualifying him for Nationals. With additional recognition from faculty choreographers and an opportunity to audition for the LA Agency scholarship we decided to pack our bags and head to California once more.

We are renovating our kitchen. While we were gone on vacation they completed demolition. We came home to exposed walls and these precarious, and inspiring, dangling lights. So we danced.

What starts in August with choreography ends in June with DanceMakers Nationals and the last time they perform their routines of the season. Several routines took home Style High Scores including Let It Bump for Teen Hip Hop Extended Line, Ensnared for Senior Open Group, Money for Senior Hip Hop Line and Heatin’ Up for Senior Hip Hop Extended Line and Ensnared winning Performance of the Year. Lucas always comes into Nationals with nerves and expectations. His emotions swung from insecurity to validation and I am so proud of his resilience and what he was able to accomplish and prove to himself.
